style=”font-size:12.0pt;font-family:SimSun;”>年台灣「中國時報出版社」出版了我寫的第一本書《往時、往事、往思》,搞舞蹈的人初次「舞文」戰戰兢兢,書出版了還是沒有自信,老覺得「拿不出手」,在普林斯頓任教的貼心好友高友工的授意下,我鼓足勇氣給在普林斯頓大學任教、著書立說不休不懈的余英時和陳淑平伉儷送去。余先生與友工在哈佛大學同學,都師從楊聯陞先生,私交甚篤。記得我送書時還當面邀請了淑平下周來紐約看大都會歌劇院《杜蘭朵》,我任此劇編舞和和藝術顧問,可以拿免費票。要看戲的當天中午,突然接到余先生電話:「淑平不舒服,今天不能來了,抱歉,她要我打電話跟你講一聲。」「怎麼病啦?」經我問,余先生才笑著道出淑平不舒服的緣由,原來是被我的書「害慘」,好幾晚連著看書沒有睡覺,搞得她暈暈乎乎。我只好喊「罪過」!</span></span><span></span></p> <p style=” line-height:normal”><span><span><span style=”font-size:12.0pt; font-family:SimSun;”>第二天,輪到我打電話向淑平抱歉,更沒有想到</span></span></span><span><span style=”font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif;Times New Roman&quot;;”>300</span></span><span><span style=”font-size:12.0pt;font-family:SimSun;”>多頁的書她已經一口氣看完,還閱讀得如此仔細。我倒不是謙虛,但有自知之明,</span></span><span> </span><span><span style=”font-size:12.0pt;font-family:SimSun;”>除了一個「真」,語法、文字、表達能力,樣樣「不及格」。不料淑平告訴我:「我不會說假話也不會客套,自己閱書多矣,好書跟技術沒多大關係,主要是內容怎麼樣,關鍵在『真』字</span></span><span><span style=”font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif;Times New Roman&quot;;”>&#8230;&#8230;</span></span><span><span style=”font-size:12.0pt;font-family:SimSun;”>。」她的肯定無疑給我吃了定心丸,我興奮得馬上向友工匯報。</span></span><span></span></p> <p font-family:SimSun;”>過不了幾天,熱心的淑平想到了出版英文的可行性,安排了出版經紀人跟我在普林斯頓鎮上咖啡廳見面,她本人作陪。如今我已經記不得這位女士的名字,但記得開場白、介紹我、談書的內容都是淑平包辦,儼然是我的經紀人。那位女士聽得津津有味,當場就答應試試看,要我挑幾章先譯成英文,她也會將合作合同給我寄來。後來合同簽了,找出版社的事進行得差強人意,英文出版沒有實現。那是另一件事,但經過這件事,使我「認識」了誠懇熱心的淑平,並跟友工一樣開始直呼她</span></span></span><span><span font-family:SimSun;”>因為友工的關係我跟約翰相識有年,他對藝術酷愛且品味極高,有時來紐約看我舞團演出也一起逛博物館,我則喜歡去他家看他收藏的書法。聊及他支持「中國學社」時,約翰說:對余先生的學尚、人格敬仰且推崇,在水深火熱的境況下,他必須義不容辭毫不猶疑的伸出援手!</span></span></span><span></span></p> <p style=” style=”font-size:12.0pt;font-family:SimSun;”>年春季被斯德哥爾摩大學中文系邀請當客座教授一年。和他們夫婦熟了,在聊天時他們透露對自己將來的前途憂慮重重,主要是他在哪個機構客座?客座時間多久?全取決於經費,剛剛在一個地方待下不久就要開始計畫下一步,這種顛沛流離的生活狀態實在讓他很難安心搞學術研究。兩個女兒在求學年齡,沒有固定的學校對她們的學業也造成不良影響,所以期盼能得到某個基金會資助,由基金會提供經費給某個學術機構邀請他常駐,這樣相對可以有一段穩定時間安下心來寫作做學術研究。</span></span><span></span></p> style=”font-size:12.0pt;font-family:SimSun;”>在瑞典召開大型國際學術討論會《國家、社會、個人》,此會幾乎囊括了全球華人學術精英,重量級學院派泰斗余英時和夫人應允出席,劉再復、馬悅然、高行健、李澤厚、北島等都會參加這個盛會。於是我跟再復提議,我可以邀請余英時夫婦來我家晚餐,你可以借這個機會跟余先生好好談談。余先生因憂心海外漢學研究式微,成為</span></span><span><span style=”font-size:12.0pt;font-family:SimSun;”>年初成立的「蔣經國國際學術交流基金會」主要推手,這是一個面向國際的學術獎助機構,由政府與民間共同捐助成立,任職於學術機構之專任學者,都可以向基金會申請,而再復完全符合申請條件。再復一聽蔣經國三個字就「怕」惹麻煩,但我告訴他,基金會負責人李亦園教授前個時期來斯德哥爾摩跟我提過,他很明確的告訴我基金會跟政治無關,以「純學術」定位,且以「中華文化」作為學術研究核心。</span></span><span></span></p> <p style=” line-height:normal”><span><span><span style=”font-size:12.0pt; font-family:SimSun;”>在再復將信將疑之下,我說:「我已經約好了余英時夫婦來家晚餐,你看這樣安排行不行?我負責燒飯,聚餐只請你和菲亞、余先生和淑平,再加上我和老公比雷爾,其他的人我就一概不邀請,這樣沒有局外人在場,你可以暢所欲言。」不料再復提出來要我邀請李澤厚參加聚會。我讀過</span></span></span><span><span style=”font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif;Times New Roman&quot;;”>80</span></span><span><span style=”font-size:12.0pt;font-family:SimSun;”>年代初風靡一時的李澤厚著作《美的歷程》,還買了很多本推薦給友人,也知道他夫人是搞舞蹈的,但我沒有答應,原因是怕妨礙了晚飯的「目的」,我還給厚道的再復打比方:如果現在只可能有一個蘋果,你就要對分一半給別人咯。但再復仍然堅持,還請專人去機場接李澤厚,然後帶著行李直奔我家,好不「誤」正事。</span></span><span></span></p> <p style=” line-height:normal”><span><span><span style=”font-size:12.0pt; font-family:SimSun;”>余先生和淑平先到,我坦白說明:雖然我和比雷爾是有心盡地主之誼,但今晚實在是有急事相求,請他們諒解包涵。然後,我簡單的將情況介紹了一番。</span></span></span><span></span></p> font-family:SimSun;”>中國傳統文化中的「人情」,余先生看得很重,他在讀史著書之餘,關懷文化關懷社會關懷時局,年輕學子都希望得到他的指點,找機會與他討論形形色色的問題,給我的感覺他幾乎是有求必應,無論是流亡在外的知識人,或是來美國開會的兩岸三地學者前去拜訪,他們家總是敞開大門熱情接待。有一次我向余先生建議,讓他出本專集,專門收羅他為他人出版寫的序。這些年來我看過不少篇他寫的序,有些為伸張正義、有些為弘揚文化,也有些需要他拔刀相助他不得不「仗義」的文字。其中「題《董橋七十》」那篇序最為精采,文字和書法相得益彰美不勝收。</span></span></span><span></span></p>
